Marking Out Ruskin Park

Bring back the lost houses, their foundations
exposed in yellow lines across parkland in drought,
X-rays that can be measured, mapped,
the aerial view that says this was Harworth Street,
right here, next to the swings, images
narrowed down to numbers: 8 to 52,
so we can say, this rubble, buried deep,
is the back to back of where they lived,
the skylight framing the quarters of the moon,
the staircase behind the door in the kitchen,
the smell of coal dust from filled-in cellars,
though there’s no fire, no mantelpiece now,
no box of  household matches,
no bills stacked behind daytrip souvenirs.
