Victorian Villains of Walkley

Walkley Medical Centre car park, 10:30am – 12pm.

Watch out for Walkley’s ne’er-do-wells from brawling butchers to bogus barons.

Led byWalkley Historian Hugh Waterhouse.

Start at Walkley Medical Centre and end of St Mary’s Church. Parking on side streets, on 95 bus route, near 52 and 31 routes. Suitable for adults. Some steep hills involved. 1.5 hours, about 2 miles.

Walkley’s Watering Holes

Discover a little something about historical events at Walkley’s pubs past and present – and the people who visited them. Led by Fayzeh Mohamed.

Warning – this is not a pub crawl! Start and end at Walkley Cottage.

Parking on Bolehill Rd and at Walkley Cottage, on 95 and 52 bus route. Suitable for adults. Steep hills involved. 2 hours, about 2.5 miles.

Ruskin’s Reach

John Ruskin

Corner of Fulton Rd and Howard Rd by the Welcome to Walkley sign, 6pm – 8pm.

Meet the wide variety of Walkley Victorian people who visited John Ruskin’s museum on Bole Hill Rd in the 1880s. See the Walkley terrace that Ruskin himself stayed in. Led by Walkley Historians Suzie Doncaster and Hilary Evans.

Start at corner of Fulton Rd and Howard Rd by the Welcome to Walkley sign. Finish at Ruskin House, nr Walkley Cottage, Bolehill Rd. Parking on side streets, on 95 bus route, near 52 route. Suitable for adults. Steep hills involved. 2 hours, about 2 miles.

The Victorians of Freedom Road

Freedom Road Community Garden, 2;30pm-3:30pm.

Find the families who lived on Freedom Road in Victorian times. A tale of ordinary folk.. Led by Walkley Historian Vicky Romegoux.

Start and end Freedom Rd Community Garden. On-street parking, near the 95, 52 and 31 bus routes. Suitable for adults. 1 relatively steep hill involved – Freedom Rd! 1 hour, about 0.5 miles.
