Walkley History

News, events and discoveries of the Walkley Ways, Walkley Wars history project.

New Speaker

Today we have confirmed another speaker for the launch event on the 30th November.

Hugh Waterhouse is a Walkley resident and local historian. He will co-ordinate the local history research about Walkley in 1908, when the Reform Club was founded on Fir St, and about the Club’s WW1 veterans.

He will talk about his personal interest in Walkley’s history, including his research in Walkley Cemetery of the people buried there who lived in Walkley. He will also tell us a little about one or two of the Walkley Reform Club’s WW1 veterans who feature in the memorial windows.

Hugh has lots of experience researching records in Sheffield Archives and Local Studies Library and will mention some of the main sources of information we will be looking at during the project.
